"Asia Laboratory Animal Day" Established, Upcoming Commemorative Activities to be Launched
At the recent Council Meeting of the Asian Federation of Laboratory Animal Science Associations (AFLAS), the proposal to establish "Asia Laboratory Animal Day" was successfully approved, designating November 29, the founding date of AFLAS, as the "Asia Laboratory Animal Day".
In the process of scientific research, laboratory animals play a crucial role as a significant component, contributing greatly to scientific breakthroughs and improving human quality of life. The establishment of this commemorative day marks an important step forward in the field of laboratory animal science and technology in Asia, aiming to enhance attention to animal welfare and ethics while emphasizing the vital role of laboratory animals in advancing biomedical research. The choice of AFLAS's founding date as "Asia Laboratory Animal Day" reflects the organization's commitment to fostering unity and cooperation in this field across Asia.
To commemorate the inaugural "Asia Laboratory Animal Day", AFLAS will organize a series of themed activities under the leadership of the current AFLAS President, Professor Qin Chuan. These activities will include workshops, seminars, public outreach initiatives, and collaborative projects, focusing on promoting a culture of care and ethical practices in laboratory animal research. The aim is to raise public awareness of laboratory animal welfare and pay tribute to the silent contributions of these animals to scientific progress. We will also encourage AFLAS Member Associations to plan related commemorative activities to jointly honor this milestone day.
The establishment of "Asia Laboratory Animal Day" reflects the collective efforts of AFLAS members and demonstrates their commitment to promoting laboratory animal welfare and enhancing research ethics. This day will serve as an annual reminder of the critical contributions of laboratory animals to medical research and advancements in human health, as well as our individual responsibilities in ensuring their welfare. Furthermore, it signifies AFLAS's commitment to ethical practices and the humane treatment of laboratory animals, embodying its mission to promote responsible and sustainable scientific progress.
Through this commemorative day, AFLAS and its Member Associations will continue to strive for a balanced development of scientific research and ethical care, witnessing further advancements in laboratory animal science and technology across Asia.
